What we collect
- Numbers and texts you check stay in your browser. To look a number up, the page downloads Ofcom's public data file for the number's first three digits (for example the file for 0770) and does the matching on your device; the full number is never sent to us or to anyone else. Texts pasted into the scam text checker are checked on your device and never sent. If analytics is on, it records only the kind of number checked and its first five digits (for example "mobile, 07700"), never the whole number or the text.
- Usage statistics via Google Analytics 4 (page views, referrer, country, device type, which tools you use). Google LLC processes this data for us under its data processing terms; GA4 does not log or store IP addresses. In the EU, UK and Switzerland the analytics cookies are set only after you allow them in the banner.
Legal basis and retention
We process data to provide the service you requested (contract), to run the site (legitimate interest) and, for marketing emails, on your consent. Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion. Aggregate statistics are kept for as long as the site exists.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your data, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Write to hello@textcheckuk.xyz. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets the cookies _ga and _ga_* (up to 2 years) to tell returning visitors from new ones. In the EU, UK and Switzerland they are set only after you allow them; elsewhere they are set by default. Your choice, and any licence or settings you save, live in this browser's local storage, which is technical storage needed for the features you use.
